Triangulation in Qualitative Research
Triangulation in
qualitative research

- The use of multiple methods or data sources in qualitative
research, to develop a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon
- A qualitative research strategy to test the validity
through the convergence of information from different sources
-
The objective is to increase confidence in the findings,
through the confirmation of a proposition of using two or more independent measures,
in order to increase the validity of the research. E.g. Archivable research and
semi structured interviews.
It helps to find areas of agreements and areas of divergence
in research which has the benefits as follows:
Benefits
-
Increase confidence in findings
-
Reveal unique findings
-
Creating innovative ways of understanding a phenomenon
-
Diversify and quantity of data that can be used
for analysis
-
Challenging or integrating theories and providing
a clearer understanding of the problem
Thank you for sharing this Jess. I like how it increases confidence in the findings, with all the data collected it is hard to know what is relevant. x
ReplyDeleteVery true, I certainly get carried away sometimes. I need to keep going back and reminding myself of the Inquiry title!
