Stepping Outside the Realms of Normality
I watched a video today called "How Weird Are You?" by the Daily Goalcast, a Facebook Page and YouTube Following. Hopefully you can access the link:

A short video reflecting upon social expectations of normality. The speaker, JP Sears reflects upon that culturally we are crushed by normally and that it is "The most pervasive disease that inflicts humanity, is the disease of being normal."
An interesting arguement on creativity, and how cultural and social expectation inhibits our sense of self and creativity.
Look at Lady Gaga (pictured left) in her iconic meat dress. Now, love her or loathe her, she isn't perceived as "normal". She pushes the boundaries of cultural expectation and is subsequently one of the most successful global pop stars in the 21st Century.
JP Sears goes on to say that the excitement of creativity comes from the uncertainty and vulnerability we put ourselves in. Our inner self to be judged, criticised and questioned.
He also notes that in order for a creative piece to be successful, we must challenge ourselves. "It has to be a challenge to be expressed ... or else it won't have meaning."
My question is, do you agree?
