Different Ways of Communication

Image result for think outside the boxSo I really came unstuck with this. Why? There are so many different ways of communicating, I know this, as a drama teacher I understand body language, facial expression, actions, music and so much more. Then why did I find this so difficult?

Think outside the box you say. Well, I was definitely in it. I was quite comfortable and happy in my little box of unoriginality. Academic work is words right? Wrong!

So after yesterdays Skype call, I literally burst into tears. I had got it all wrong, so wrong and all that time, effort and energy was wasted.

Well... that is not completely true. You take your work and extract bits, reinvent it, improve it, change its form. I do this with drama and creative work so why can't I do that with this?

Mini melt-down over and time to put pen to paper. I drew out this:

Now it doesn't seem so difficult. I then thought about what as a drama practitioner gets me excited? What do I love working with? And the answer is really props and costumes. I LOVE working with them. They enhance character, give ideas and are ultimately fun.

Now I am exploring some ideas of how props and costume could be incorporated into or as my diagram.

Time to think outside the box.
